VITAMIN E 

(TOCOPHEROL)

The fat-soluble vitamin E belongs to the group of antioxidants, as well as vitamin A and vitamin C. It protects our body from the so-called free radicals. These are caused on the one hand by a wrong, one-sided diet or by smoking, stress and solar radiation. 

Vitamin E has a cell-protective effect here and is said to be able to slow down the aging process of the skin. That is why it is often used in skin care products. It also has an anti-inflammatory effect and helps superficial wounds to heal. Vitamin E also has an influence on the protection of the cardiovascular system. 

Mostly, vitamin E occurs naturally in plants, but in small amounts also in animal foods. 

The body can store vitamin E in the liver and release it when needed. Only in the case of a prolonged undersupply can deficiency symptoms occur, such as dry skin, fatigue and low concentration, as well as anemia and muscle breakdown. Disturbances of the fat metabolism or the liver can also be a reason. 

Vitamin E deficiency is rather rare due to diet. With a balanced diet, the vitamin E requirement is usually covered; the vitamin is already naturally contained in many vegetable oils.
